Counterfeiting and embezzlement are crimes that will leave those convicted facing severe punishment including jail or prison time, substantial fines, and a permanent criminal record. In order to reach positive results it is essential to work with a highly qualified Kansas City criminal defense lawyer.

What is counterfeiting?

To put it simply, it is manufacturing, creating, or duplicating “fake” money in order to gain from this false money. Additionally, if you copy money or currency in an effort to pass it for the original article, it is a type of forgery considered counterfeiting.

The crime of embezzlement occurs when a person knowingly or intentionally withholds assets from a person or individuals when the accused has been entrusted with those assets. Most embezzlement cases involve someone who in their employment capacity has access to significant financial resources. For example, by intentionally or knowingly withholding funds from investors, a financial planner or adviser could be suspected of embezzling clients’ funds and ultimately charged with this white collar crime.
